FUN JANUARY HOLIDAYS AND WAYS TO CELEBRATE THEM

January 1: New Year’s Day
Wishing you and your family and healthy and happy new year!

January 6: Bean Day
Bean Day is the same day as the famous geneticist, Gregor Mendel, died in 1884. Mendel used bean plants and pea plants to develop theories on genetics in plants that are taught in today's biology classes.

January 18: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Learn more about Martin Luther King, Jr. and National Day of Service.

January 19: National Popcorn Day
I love popcorn!  Buttered, salted, kettled, drizzled with caramel, you name it!  Popcorn is one of those perfect anytime snacks.  Did you know? There's only one variety of corn is able to become popcorn.  Zea mays everta. Yet, there’s evidence of early use of popcorn dating back 5,000 years in New Mexico.

January 20: National Cheese Lover Day
Even more than popcorn, I love cheese!  Unfortunately, I'm sensitive to cow's milk.  Thank God for goat and sheep's milk cheeses that are super delicious!  Did you know? Approximately 10 pounds of milk is required to make one pound of cheese. If it wasn’t for cheese a lot of milk would go to waste.

January 23: National Pie Day
Not to be confused with National "Pi" Day, this holiday is sponsored by the American Pie Council...yep! It's a real thing.

January 25 - Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day
It's so satisfying!  How did this holiday begin? Rumor has it that a radio station once inadvertently unwrapped microphones on the air and listeners loved it! The rest is history.

January 29: National Puzzle Day
Did you know? When we work on a jigsaw puzzle, it uses both sides of the brain and improves our memory, cognitive function and problem solving skills.
