Join us at the Fayette Environmental Education Center for one or all five weeks of Camp WILD this summer. Each week offers a different theme with fun games, activities, live animal encounters, and crafts so your camper can keep the fun going all summer. In addition to nature-based themes, Camp WILD empowers campers to get involved with our resident animals in a new way by helping out with Chicken Chores! They’ll help feed, water, and provide enrichment for our barnyard chickens, ducks, rabbits, and pygmy goats! Then on Fridays, we’ll wrap up the week with a Friday Fun Day Camp Out, where campers will have a water war with the Fayette County Fire Department, make messy s’mores by the campfire, and chill out with popsicles the way summers are meant to be enjoyed!
Led by professional educators and naturalists, we offer weekly, creatively themed programs for kids ages 7 – 11 (must be seven by registered week).
Week 1: June 5-9 Decomposers: Where would the world be without our hard-working decomposers? They help to keep life on this planet going. This week we will take a deep dive into decomposition and the cool critters in the soil doing the heavy lifting.
Week 2: June 12-16 Wild Adaptations: Every living thing needs a way to survive the perils of the day, whether that’s finding and storing water in a harsh desert environment or escaping a hungry predator using amazing camouflage. This week we will take a look at some of nature’s wildest adaptations and how they came to be.
Week 3: June 26-30 Book of Records: How do you measure up to the fastest, tallest, and strongest animals on the planet? This week we will take a look at the animal book of records and see how we compare! We will even create a book of records of our very own to take home!
Week 4: July 10-14 Nature Colors: Nature is full of beauty and amazing color! Join us this week as we explore the science behind color, pigment mixing, rainbows, prisms, light and how they mix to give us all the colors in nature seen and unseen.
Week 5: July 17-21 Wild About Birds: Join us for the final week of camp as we discuss our fine, feathered friends. We will go on daily bird walks, learn to identify bird calls, and meet some birds throughout the week, up close and personal!
