CJ Smith Park, located at 5 Glenn St, Newnan, is a 12-acre community park. The park is divided in half into two distinct sections separated by a steep wooded bank. The upper half of the park, with an entrance off of Farmers St, is the home of the Coweta County African American Heritage Museum and Research Center. The lower half, currently located off of Glenn St, has a softball field, miscellaneous playground equipment, as well as several picnic tables and grills for gatherings.
However, that all is about to change! Construction has begun to build an attractive, modern recreational area. The new amenities expected at the park will include a bike pump track (see note below), skatepark, interactive water feature and adventure play structures.
Additionally, the LINC, Newnan’s multi-use path system will connect directly to CJ Smith Park from Newnan Centre off of Lower Fayetteville Road. This will allow families to ride their bikes on the LINC, as well as the pump track.
Final plans are still in the works, so stay tuned as details are released.
Preliminary Park Plan:
Note: A pump track is a continuous loop of raised banks and rolling mounds that you ride without pedaling. The name “pump track” comes from the pumping motion used by the rider’s upper and lower body as they ride around the track. No special bike is required making this an activity that will be fun for the whole family.
