Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity Constructs Little Free Library

The Largest Little Free Library in Coweta

July 19, 2017

When individuals think of a little free library, they typically visualize a small wooden house on a pole in someone’s yard or neighborhood. Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity hopes to challenge this mindset with its latest creation: The largest little free library in Coweta County! NCHFH gifted the library measuring 91 inches in height, 74 inches in width and 22 inches in depth to the Division of Family and Children Services located at 533 Highway 29 North in Newnan. The ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, July 14 not only unveiled the library but also showcased DFCS’ newly renovated playground as well.

“When we learned about Leadership Coweta’s Little Free Libraries Project we knew we wanted to get involved. Our goal was to construct a library that embodied Habitat and was made from repurposed materials found in our ReStore. It took volunteers four weeks to complete but we couldn’t be happier with the finished product. And, we are truly excited to be partnering with DFCS as the library will give children and adults an opportunity to read and enjoy books while waiting for DFCS services”, stated Cristina Bowerman executive director of NCHFH.

NCHFH has partnered with DFCS over the past couple of months on projects to help beautify the organization’s surroundings. The little free library is the latest contribution but other projects have included painting offices and planting new flower beds with the help of the Girls Scouts of Coweta County and the local Iron Fist Chapter of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club.

NCHFH is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. In existence since 1993, NCHFH is an ecumenical organization that puts God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope in Coweta County. To learn more about NCHFH, visit www.nchfh.org.
