November's Daily Challenge for a Thankful Thanksgiving

By Erin McGovern November 10, 2016
I try to teach my boys to be thankful for the things we have in life, whether they be big or small. Everything is a blessing and sometimes I know my oldest definitely takes advantage of the fact that we are not less fortunate.

I like to use November as a time to bring them back to their roots before they are spoiled at Christmas (Bonus - I also find it brings down their expectations/wants from Santa so that they enjoy Christmas morning even more).

This year we are going to make a thankful wall. Every night at dinner we will write down one thing we are thankful for and stick it to our wall (you can use a decorative board too) and then at the end of the month we will reflect on all of it.

My boys are 4 months, 22 months, and 6-1/2 years old so I know that most of the things on there will probably be tangible items (Xbox One, Mickey Mouse, etc.) but it gives my husband and me the opportunity to be good examples and explain that simply having a table to sit around as a family is a gift.

I want to raise my children to know how blessed they are; I want them to do for others because they have the ability to; and I want them to grow to become responsible, kind and caring adults, and I think this is one way I can break it down to their level as children.

You can find our Thankful Thanksgiving printable here.

Here's to a happy and healthy November!
