Relay For Life Event in Attempt to Break a World Record

On Friday, May 15th, 2015, over 1,000 Fayette County residents will join together at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Fayette County, GA to help finish the fight against cancer. The event will take place from 6:30 PM to 12:30 AM on May 15th, 2015 at Fayette County High School in Fayetteville. 

The American Cancer Society is the official sponsor of birthdays, because every life saved from cancer means another birthday is celebrated with family, friends, and loved ones. May 15th marks the 19th annual Relay For Life here in Fayette County, but this date is significant for another reason: on May 15th, 1821, Fayette County was incorporated. In honor and recognition, the Relay For Life will attempt to celebrate in a grand way; attempting to break a World Record for the ‘World’s Largest Cake Walk’.

With the current record at 275, the Relay For Life Event Leadership Team is hoping to recruit 300 participants to register. To register, please visit www.relayforlife.org/fayettecountyga


The Relay For Life program is a community-based event where teams and individuals set up campsites at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team strives to have at least one participant on the track at all times. Cancer survivors and caregivers take a celebratory first lap to start each event. Four million people participated in more than 6,000 events worldwide last year. The funds raised support groundbreaking cancer research, education and prevention programs, and critical services for people facing cancer. In 2014, Fayette County raised over $119,000 for the lifesaving programs of the American Cancer Society. 

In addition to the support of the community, Relay For Life of Fayette County, GA is also supported by many businesses and organizations. The event’s 2015 sponsors include: Piedmont Healthcare, Georgia Power, Peachtree City Self Storage, The Rotary Club of Peachtree City, The Southern Credit Union, and more.

In its 19th year in Fayette County, the Relay For Life is aiming to register 60 teams, 600 participants, and 200 survivors to raise $130,000 for the American Cancer Society.
