Fayette Public Arts Announces Inaugural Scarecrow Competition

Oct 20 - Nov 2, 2014

October 15, 2014
The Fayette County Public Arts Committee says it’s time to get in touch with your inner scarecrow.  The official call has been issued for creative Fayette County citizens, young and old, to create their best scarecrows ever to be put on display next to the public plaza on the grounds of the County Administration Building in downtown Fayetteville.

Families, schools, clubs, businesses and churches from Peachtree City to Woolsey are expected to participate.

The county will supply metal posts in the ground for holding each scarecrow and the participants are responsible for supplying all other materials.  Scarecrow design and type of materials used are completely up to the participants.

Horizontal posts will be in the ground starting Thursday, October 16 and Scarecrow Construction Weekend is October 18 and 19.  All entries must be completed by 7:00 pm on Monday, October 20.  All entries must be secured to a horizontal post.

Pre-registration is required for all participants along with a $10 entry fee to cover the costs.  Registration forms can obtained online at www.fayettecountyga.gov or at the County Clerk’s Office at 140 Stonewall Avenue, Suite 100 in Fayetteville.  The registration deadline is 5:00 pm on Friday, October 17.

All entries will be judged and the top three winners will be recognized at the November 13 Fayette County Board of Commissioners meeting.  The first prize winner will be given the title of “2014 Scarecrow Grand Master” and receive $150.  The criteria used in judging includes originality of design, creativeness, durability and general appearance and presentation.

This exhibit will be viewed by large audiences attending other fall events during the same period.

Scarecrow entry participants are required to monitor the health and well-being of their scarecrow for the duration of the exhibit.  All scarecrow entries will be on display until November 2.
