Local Boy Headed to Special Olympics World Summer Games

September 11, 2014

Fayette County Special Olympics is excited to announce that one of their own is heading to Special Olympics World Summer Games in 2015!  Michael Crofton was one of seven athletes chosen to represent Georgia and Team USA.   He will be joined by his unified partner, John Kirkland, from the Macon Sailing Team, to be the only sailors from Georgia at this competition.

Michael has been sailing with Fayette County for over 10 years and approaches each opportunity with a smile on his face; all while able to put a smile on everyone else’s face, too!  This World Games experience is just another successful opportunity we know Michael will add to his list!

Michael, John, and the rest of Team USA will be heading to Indianapolis, Indiana for their first taste of what’s to come.  Training Camp will be held in October of this year, where they will meet new friends and form new bonds as they begin their adventures together.  The ultimate experience will come to be highlighted when they set sail to compete in Los Angeles, in July 2015, along with 182 other countries from around the world!

If you see Michael around town, please congratulate him and wish him luck!!!!
