Fernbank Museum’s annual Reptile Day will give visitors an opportunity to get up-close with dozens of lizards, snakes, turtles and even a few amphibians. One of several summer activities featured as part of Fernbank’s 97 Days of Play series, this popular event will take place on Saturday, July 12, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lizards, turtles and salamanders—oh my! Come face-to-face with a variety of live reptiles and amphibians--both exotic and native to Georgia—in the Museum’s Great Hall.  This popular annual event offers a unique opportunity to interact with and learn more about these unique and ecologically important creatures.  Some animals may also be available for visitors to touch.

Adding to the excitement, Fernbank is partnering with the Georgia Reptile Society, Atlanta Herpetology Club of Georgia State University, The Orianne Society and more for plenty of reptile opportunities. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions and learn more about the importance of these exceptional animals. Actual species and presenters are subject to change according to availability.

Fernbank educators will also feature some of the cool critters from the Museum’s live animal collection as part of the Museum’sRemarkable Reptile animal encounters at select times throughout the day.

In addition to the live reptiles, the Museum is always filled with exciting ways to enjoy animals, including live animal habitats in the children’s exhibition Fernbank NatureQuest, exploring the mysterious world of whales in the special exhibition Whales: Giants of the Deep, a look at wildlife native to our state in A Walk Through Time in Georgia, and a trip back in time to encounter dinosaurs in Giants of the Mesozoic, the Dinosaur Plaza and in several other Museum displays.

Reptile Day is included with Museum admission, which is FREE for members, $18 for adults, $17 for students and seniors, $16 for children ages 3-12, and free for children ages 2 and under.
