MK Review: Tarzan at The Legacy Theatre

Tarzan is another standing ovation for The Legacy Theatre!

Overview: Based on Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes and the smash-hit Disney animated film, TARZAN tells the story of an infant boy orphaned on the shores of West Africa. Taken in and raised by a tribe of gorillas, the young boy strives for acceptance by his ape father while grappling with his uniqueness. When a human expedition enters their territory, Tarzan - now a man - encounters strangers like himself for the first time. The exciting score,  that boasts pounding African drums and percussion was written by pop legend, Phil Collins-his first and only Broadway musical.  Audiences will recognize the songs,  "You'll Be In My Heart", which earned an Academy Award, "Son of Man", "Strangers Like Me", "Two Worlds" as well as be treated to several new songs by Collins penned exclusively for the Broadway show.

Our Review: Tarzan, played by Jeremy Varner, was amazing as he swung from ropes, danced, and sang…frequently all at the same time.  My children’s favorite character was Terk, played by Eean Cochran, whose acrobatics and humor kept everybody laughing.  I, however, related more to the strong, motherly figure, Kala, played by Katie Fiedel, and enjoyed her moving performance.  As in the movie, one of our favorite scenes was “Trashin’ the Camp” that included a fun song and dance performance!

With great music, acting, dancing and high swinging fun, Tarzan lives up to the reputation that we’ve come to expect from The Legacy Theatre.  This is one show that will have you laughing, crying and even jumping out of your seat.  It's the perfect show for families that you don't want to miss!

Tarzan is rated G but does contain some thrilling content, such as loud rifle shots, that may frighten very small children.  TARZAN opened July 12 and runs through August 4 at The Legacy Theatre in Tyrone, GA.  Shows are Tuesday-Saturday at 7:30PM and Saturday and Sunday at 3PM.  Call the Legacy box office at (404 )895-1473 for tickets or go online at www.thelegacytheatre.org.
