With temperatures forecasted to be near or above 100 degrees over the next week, my family and I decided to check out Lynch Park Pool, a pool we’ve never been to.
This is a 4,200 sq. ft. pool that includes a 42-foot-wide zero entry, a mushroom water feature, four lanes for recreational lap swimming, a dedicated catch pool for the water slide, a splash fountain for kids, and several tables and shade umbrellas. The maximum depth of the pool is 3’6” and there is plenty of space in the splash fountain and 1 foot depth for the little ones to romp around in the water.
We arrived at 2 pm, an hour after the pool had opened and it already was packed! I spoke to a lifeguard who told me that the parking lot was full before the pool even opened that day, and that the crowds were typical. Even with a lot of families there already, everyone seemed to be having a great time! In fact, my kids, along with many of the teens, couldn’t get enough of the water slide…and the wait for the slide was never very long!
We were impressed with the number of lifeguards by the pool and how effectively they handled rule breaking. I was told that they are adamant about enforcing the pool’s rule and will even put kids in timeout for bad behavior!
I was amazed to learn that the pool area has been in existence since the mid 1930s. In 2010 a new pool was funded through the City of Newnan's 2007 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. The pool is the result of a unique partnership since the 1960’s: The city owns and maintains the pool, while the county provides daily operations.
In addition to the open hours for public swimming, the pool offers morning classes such as water aerobics, swim lessons and Mommy and Me swim time.
If you go, be aware that the pool closes down from 3:30 to 4:00pm so the lifeguards can take a lunch break. Patrons can hang out by the pool during this time as long as they don’t go into the pool.
Overall, we thought the Lynch Park Pool was a great place to cool off, and we’ll be going back…if only to go down the water slide!
