Discover the Thrill of LEGOLAND Discovery Center!

Opening March 17th in Phipps Plaza

This past Sunday, my family and I had the opportunity to tour LEGOLAND Discovery Center at Phipps Plaza before it officially opens on March 17th.  As LEGO-lovers, we were all excited about what lay beyond those yellow double doors that led into a world of creativity and imagination.

The first thing you should know, in case you're not already aware, is that LEGOLAND Discovery Center is inside Phipps Plaza.  There's not a storefront opening up to the outside of the mall, so go ahead and park and take the elevator up to the third floor.

The first part of our tour was led by Master Builder Joshua Bohn who is the mastermind behind many of the elaborate LEGO models you'll see while touring the facility.  He took us through the process of making a LEGO brick and wowed us with some fascinating facts.

Next, after receiving a fun souvenir LDC brick, we moved to a fun game, suitable for the whole family.  We all piled into a "car" and set off on a journey, armed with a laser gun, ready to blast all the evil-doers in LEGOLAND!  It was super fun, and even my 15-month-old was fascinated by the scenes that came alive around him!

After the ride, we walked into MINILAND where we were blown away by the most well-known buildings and places in Atlanta made completely out of LEGOs!  This was probably my favorite display as I'm completely in awe of the level of creativity and workmanship that went into all of the creations.  You must see it to believe it!

From here, we walked into a large, bright room where we had the opportunity to test our building skills against the power of an earthquake, build a car and race it along a variety of speedways (this was a HUGE hit with all the boys - and dads), fly high on the Merlin's Apprentice ride, grab a bite to eat in the cafe, or let the kids play on the climbing maze.

Our visit ended with a 4D movie where we saw our LEGO heroes set off on an adventure, all the while surprising the audience with some special effects really making you feel like you are part of the action!

We all had a great time, though I would advise that this experience is best for kids ages three and up.  Our little one really just wanted to wander around and climb on everything!  So if you have a LEGO lover in your home, definitely set aside some time to explore this new and exciting venue.  You won't be disappointed!
