Ghostbusters The Movie Review

Halloween’s coming up and “who ya gonna call?”  Why Ghostbusters!  Of course!

We didn’t get a chance to see the Ghostbusters movie when it was at the theater, but this past week we had a fun time watching it on DVD with several MacKid readers at the Peachtree City Library.

This movie brings together  four of the funniest ladies in entertainment – Melissa McCarthy (Abby Yates), Kristen Wiig (Erin Gilbert), Kate McKinnon (Jillian Holtzmann), and Leslie Jones (Patty Tolan).  It even has appearances from the stars of the original Ghostbusters film.

Everybody at the library showing agreed that Ghostbusters was a really fun, family film, and the kids especially loved the slime scenes! Jillian Holzmann, with her brainy, fun-loving nature was our favorite character, and Chris Hemsworth, whom you're sure to recognize, surprised us with something hilarious every time he appeared as the receptionist.  Overall, our favorite scene was when the Stay Puff Marshmallow man landed on our heroes.  Some people literally fell off their seats laughing!  Finally, be sure to watch the movie to the end...there are more hilarious scenes in the credits.

Although Ghostbusters can be shown any time of year, this movie would be perfect for a Halloween party.

Here’s a brief overview of the movie:

Paranormal researcher Abby Yates and engineer Jillian Holtzmann are trying to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. When strange apparitions appear in Manhattan, physicist Erin Gilbert and Patty Tolan, a lifelong New Yorker who knows the city inside and out join the team.  Armed with proton packs and plenty of attitude, the four women prepare for an epic battle as more than 1,000 mischievous ghouls descend on Times Square.

Rated PG-13, for supernatural action and some crude humor, the film mixes action with nonstop comedy.  We felt that although the film has some pretty scary spirit baddies and intense ghostly battles -- as well as gross-out slime scenes, it was so over the top that it's likely to be more engrossing than chilling for most tweens and up.  There was a fair amount of curse words, along with some crude hand signals, images and humor.  Parents should use discretion based on their values and knowledge of their children.

Ghostbusters is currently available on DVD and Blu ray, and includes over 3 hours of bonus features include hilarious gag reel & deleted scenes that we loved as much as the movie!
