Final weeks to play at Children’s Museum of Atlanta before Renovation

Families invited to help say goodbye to current Museum space with fun festivities!

The Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s renovation is right around corner! Beginning Saturday, August 1, the Museum will close for a brief period to complete the highly anticipated updates, upgrades and additions. The project, which is set to be completed in late 2015, will include an added mezzanine level, two new permanent exhibits, enhanced existing galleries and permanent performance space for the Museum’s Imaginators.

 

In honor of the upcoming transformation, the Children’s Museum is celebrating its final weeks with a variety of special festivities, renovation-themed events and more! Families are encouraged to join in on all the closing festivities. Don’t miss this last chance to say goodbye to the old space before welcoming the new Children’s Museum of Atlanta this winter!

 

Below is a schedule of final exhibit offerings and renovation-themed events for families to enjoy at the Museum before August 1:

 
Last Chance for “Once Upon A Time: Exploring the World of Fairy Tales” Exhibit

            Available through Sunday, July 26

            Time is running out to experience “Once Upon a Time” at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta! This engaging feature exhibit, which allows children to interact with larger-than-life scenes from seven of the world’s most famous fairy tales, will be available through Sunday, July 26. Don’t miss out on all the fairy tale fun! 

 

Science Bar: Beta Test

Available on select dates at 11 a.m.

Upcoming dates include: July 27, July 28, July 29 and July 30

Want a sneak peek of the Children’s Museum’s post-renovation science offerings? Head over to   Professor Labcoat's Science Bar: Beta Test! The team will be testing out ideas for new        programming, answering STEM-related questions and looking for some input. Science benefits from practice and collaboration, and the Children’s Museum wants the community to be a part of         what they’re creating!

           

Construction Bash

Available on select dates at 12 p.m.

Upcoming dates include: July 28, July 29 and July 30

Grab a construction hat and join the team that is going to build the NEW Children’s Museum of Atlanta! Friends from DPR Hardin Construction in Atlanta will be onsite to talk to kids about the art construction (and demolition!). Then, children can join the Imaginators for a DIY construction hat craft. Each visitor will receive a white plastic construction hat that they can decorate. Kids and parents will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the Museum’s renovation project.

 

End of Summer Bash!

Friday, July 31 from 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The Children’s Museum is packing up and hitting the road! Join the Imaginators for a fun-filled last day inside the Museum before doors shut temporarily for the highly anticipated renovation! Children can enjoy sidewalk chalk drawing on the carpet, writing “goodbye” on the shadow wall, participating in dance parties, making crafts, winning special prizes and much more. Professor Labcoat will lead a hair-raising science show with amazing chemical reactions, intriguing science tools and tons of fun learning. At the end of the day, families will enjoy a final farewell parade outside.

 

Schedule of events during End of Summer Bash!

  • 10 a.m. – Writing goodbye to the Museum on the walls; sidewalk chalk drawing on the carpet
  • 11 a.m. – Dance Party!
  • 12 p.m. – Games with Prizes (Bean Bag Toss, Brick Buster and Flag Disc Toss)
  • 1 p.m. – Dance Party!
  • 2 p.m. – Professor Labcoat’s “Wow Show”
  • 3 p.m. – Noise Maker Craft
  • 4 p.m. – Final Parade out of Museum
