The summer is a busy time for Fayette County Special Olympics. May 29-31, eighty-two athletes, unified partners, and coaches represented Fayette County at the state Summer Games at Emory University. Athletes competed in athletics, long distance walking, volleyball, aquatics, tennis, table tennis, and flag football.
- Demi Baus – 15M Walk: 3rd; 15M Unassisted Swim: 3rd
- William Boseman – 15M Walk: 2nd; 10M Assisted Swim: 3rd
- Dylan Collins, Buddy Croft, Benji Hou, Cooper Marzka and Shannon Waldrop all competed in the 25M Freestyle. Also competing was Dylan Collins and Shannon Waldrop in the 25M Backstroke and Buddy Croft and Benji Hou in the 50M Freestyle! All bling was well represented by our swimmers! We brought home everything from 4th place to the GOLD!

Our Flag Football team came in 3rd place! Those athletes were: Ben Isbell, Brandon Mains, Jonathan Oswalt, Thomas Reed, Alex Simmons, Kirsten Simon, Tyson Smith, & Jon Vicha.
We had 2 volleyball teams, too! The Firecrackers came in 4th place. Those athletes were Owen Apfel, Sydney Brown, Alex Goodman, Michelle Huff, Steven Ochoa, Allison Romano, and Yosuf Stoman. The DYN-O-MITES came in 5th place!! Those athletes were Jamie Baggett, Khoury Dunlap, Helena Fickling, Cory LaMonde, Joey Martin, Brittni New, and David Washburn!
The week after state Summer Games, the Fayette County sailing team headed to Charleston, South Carolina for the Special Olympics Charleston Sailing Regatta! This is always a fun event, filled with new friendships, laughter, and fun in the sun sailing! A huge THANK YOU to the Central GA EMC for helping make this trip possible for this crew!
